Four Ways To Increase Gas Mileage On Long Trips

After packing the suitcases and pulling out the map, there are a few factors that will increase gas mileage on family vacation trips. The most prevalent four involve frequent stops, highway miles, properly cooling the vehicle, and good directions. Many other possibilities may exist concerning the ways to increase gas mileage, but these four tips are prevalent when taking a vacation that requires driving.

The first topic concerning ways to increase gas mileage is that of frequent stops along the way. It is important that everyone uses the restroom before leaving and that snacks and beverages are pre-planned and already in the family vehicle. This avoids stopping at several rest stops and gas stations along the way that would require the car to be turned off and then on multiple times. Each time a car is started, more gasoline is needed than if the car were simply running.

Taking advantage of highways instead of back roads is the second tip on how to increase gas mileage. Frequent stop signs, red lights, and traffic hold-ups may cause the amount of time the vehicle is running to be prolonged. As imagined, when speaking of ways to increase gas mileage, more energy is required the longer something runs when speaking of most any electronic, tool, or vehicle. Highways are typically straight shot driving without interruptions for an eager family ready to start their vacation.

Discussing The Obvious Factors

The third topic among the list of ways to increase gas mileage may come across as a bit humorous, but the way that the car is cooled down if it is hot may be more important than imagined. Running the air conditioner the entire time will most certainly lead to far more gas usage as opposed to rolling down the windows to allow air in. Additionally, there are thoughts that even rolling the windows down may cause wind resistance that leads to the vehicle using more gas anyways, but in the bigger picture the windows slightly down would be far less of a fuel toll.

Good directions may also increase gas mileage in all honesty as being lost tends to require more gasoline to get back to square one on the adventure. This fourth and final factor is somewhat simplistic, but ultimately very important, as it is quite possible when going to an unfamiliar location to get severely lost and throw the gas budget out the window. Find several ways to get there and ask for input on which way is best along with utilizing the other three factors and a fun-filled economically sensible vacation is on the way!
